I am from Himachal Pradesh, but now we have settled in Uttarakhand, my village falls in the district of Hamirpur, and some of my family – grandfather’s brothers – still reside there. Nowadays visiting our village is possible only during festivals or weddings. Still, whenever we go to our village, we are welcomed and loved by everyone, they invite us into their homes offering food, and amazing dishes are prepared, and we have a lot of fun.

What can I say about the people I meet there when I visit, they are very kind-hearted, and always stand by everyone in times of trouble. In many households in our village, there are soldiers and we all know that no matter how old a soldier becomes, they always remain young at heart. Even after retiring from the Indian army, they are socially active, helping needy people in their village without personal gains in mind.

There are a few retired army soldiers from our village who have been doing social service for many years. They have formed an organization named “Rotary Village Corps (ISPUR)” and have been working since 1986, providing free camps for those who cannot afford medical expenses.

My cousins from the village told me about this organization, and right away I felt very happy hearing that they are doing such noble work. Our lives are precious, and we all know how important it is to have good eyesight. I wish healthy lives for everyone and that no one should ever face any unfortunate incidences, especially related to eyes, because living without eyes is not living. This organization is helping with this exact aspect of lives in that area.

When any patient who needs their eyes looked into arrives, they begin with the patient’s eyes test. If their eyesight is weak or they have any problems, they undergo the necessary procedure to be treated. The personnel associated with this organization also provide these patients with food, and medicines, even care for them until their eye bandages are removed and they can go out without restrictions.

Rotary Village Corps runs camps where everyone gets treated without any discrimination. Their camp got recognition in 2021 and, many volunteers joined their mission and are now contributing. Mr. Chit Bilas Pathak is the president of this organization and even donated his land twice for setting up this camp. The first time was in 1998 when he donated his land to the government, and then once again when he set up the camp by himself for the betterment of society. Today, there are a total of 12 members in this team who have supported in their own different ways. Makes me feel so humbled that I wish for all the members who are doing such good work to have a long life and good health.

There are very few people in life who think of others before themselves. Many people come here to get their check-ups done. They have done a good deed by providing free treatment to so many people. It is necessary to have such people in our country who do such noble work. I will go meet them when I am there next time and be inspired even more.
